EARTH:HELL IN A HANDBASKET!

I am an avid recycler and do all that I can to diminish mine and my family's carbon footprint.
FACINATING FACT: Did you know that during 2006 we, the Brits, exported 20 tonnes of mineral water to Australia, and they in turn exported to us 21Tonnes...WTF is that all about? It's water FFS...think of the carbon footprint left behind by transporting water all over the world, all those that can't or rather wont drink tap water...if it bothers you that much, then filter it!!
IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION THEN YOU ARE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM!!!!
Think about it people, by actually looking at what you buy in the supermarkets, meat, fruit and veg for example...and choosing to put back those Granny Smiths from South Africa, and buying locally grown apples instead, this is your one small part in making this world a little greener, your one small part in maybe, one day when enough of us have done our own small part, making the supermarkets rethink their purchasing guidelines...After all it's pointless buying in from abroad, when people are favouring locally produced, fresher produce, and in turn diminishing the need for it to be hauled half-way round the world, thus, causing even more pollution.
Next time you do a 'big' shop, go through it all and note where it all has travelled from. Is there really any need to buy anything that has had to travel any more than 20 miles to get to you? Really?
Also, the 'Bags for Life' you can buy. they fold away to nothing in a handbag pocket or glove box. These are strong carrier bags that can be reused time and time again, and when they break you can take them back to the shop to have them replaced and recycled..free of charge. Or is it you just don't want to be seen with say a Tescos bag instead of a Jane Norman one?...remember it's not just for groceries, with one of these on your hip you can refuse bags wherever you shop, and in by doing so, you may make just one other person question their own carrier bag consumption...see, it's all dolly steps, but every little helps! Getting back to your last 'big' shop, how many carriers did you use? How many more did you add to the many already building up under your sink, ready for re-use? How many times will you re-use them...seriously? Once if they are lucky, if not the inevitable periodical culling, bags within bags, heading straight for landfill...Shame on you!!!
There's another saying I would like to share with you:
"We did not inherit the Earth...we are merely borrowing it from our children"
I, in my own small way, have contributed to a better future, by raising 3 ecology aware children, children who will tell me off for inadvertantly buying goods with non-recyclable packaging!! Who bring their friends lunch rubbish home, so we can recycle it for them! Recycling and being environmentally aware is a way of life to them, living a greener lifestyle will be path of the course for them, so, when they leave home, I know that at least 3 other households are doing their own bit, to save this our beautiful Planet.
By the way Sainsburys is the absolute worse for knocking out goods not in recyclable packaging...oh, and the little note stating that
'Because we care about the environment so much, we're working on it'
BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT, BULLSHIT!!!They are working to government guidlines that all packaged goods should come in recyclable packaging by the year 2012 or so!!
No deed is too small when it comes to this issue....make 2008 the year you become more ecologically aware, and in turn educating others...BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!
Right..rant over, for now!!
